Abstract:
With increasing use of high-strength concrete tied columns in structural engineering, it becomes necessary to examine the applicability of related sections of the current design codes. This paper presents a parametric study based on numerical analysis of highstrength concrete tied columns subjected to eccentric compressive loading. A total of 21 rectangular tied columns with concrete strengths of 37.5 to 75 MPa are numerically investigated. The parameters studied are configuration, size and yield strength of ties, concrete strength, depth of cover, and amount of longitudinal reinforcement. The strength and ductility of the tied columns are investigated, and the related design code sections are examined.
