Abstract:
The objective of this study is to develop reliability-based resistance factors for flexure and shear of lightweight concrete (LWC) components. The statistical parameters of the bending moment capacity and shear for reinforced concrete beams and slabs were developed using the new material and component test data. The basic load combination is dead load and live load. Reliability indexes are calculated for a wide range of dead load and live load ratios and several possible values of the resistance factor. The acceptability criterion for the resistance factor is closeness to the target reliability index, which is the same as for normalweight concrete beams and slabs. The results confirmed that the current resistance factors for LWC beams provide a sufficient level of safety.
