Abstract:
The requirements for achieving sufficient modulus of elasticity (MOE) of concrete is increasing not only for high rise structures, but also for concrete precast/prestressed components and repair application. However, achieving high modulus of elasticity, while maintaining good workability, pumpability and consolidation of concrete is of challenge for concrete producers and contractors. This presentation will highlight main factors influencing on concrete modulus of elasticity. These factors include materials, concrete compositions, microstructure and interface between cementitious material paste and aggregates. The influence of mixer efficiency, workability, rheology and consolidation on MOE will be discussed. Some examples of highly workable high-performance concrete used in high profile projects such as One World Trade Center and Trump Tower in Chicago as well as laboratory development of concrete having extremely high MOE of approx. 9 million psi (62 MPa) will be also presented.
