Abstract:
Design of 3-D printable concretes requires a careful control of the rheological characteristics that will enable extrudability and buildability of the mix. Further, the process of mixture proportioning tends to depend on the printer characteristics in most approaches. There is a clear need to identify critical rheological parameters that can be used for a suitable mixture design process for concrete that is suited for most extrusion systems. The presentation will focus on one such methodology based on the yield stress of the concrete. Additionally, it will also talk about the difficulties in mechanical characterization of layered systems. The results from an ongoing research investigation on 3-D printable concretes and the successes achieved in printing will also be discussed.
