Abstract:
At current rates we will exceed the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, predicted to lead to more than 2°C of global warming, in less than 25 years. It is therefore essential to act fast and at scale. In this presentation I will compare the chances to reduce CO2 emissions through the use of alkali activated materials with the prospects from drastically increasing the level of substitution of Portland cement by supplementary materials. I will also identify outstanding research questions and ask how we should prioritise our research funding in the light of the climate emergency facing us.
