Abstract: This contribution is exclusively devoted to Chapter 5, viz., "Design of Members without Web Reinforcement." A hypothesis on the mechanism of the formation of inclined cracks in beams with relatively long shear spans is presented. It is shown that both qualitative and quantitative agreement can be obtained between a theory based on this hypothesis and the design formula [Eq. (5-13) ] suggested by Committee 326.
