Description
This is a recorded webinar from October 4, 2016.
Curing concrete is a critical component of concrete construction needed to achieve the durability and quality everyone expects, yet it is often overlooked or limited. Discover how this relatively inexpensive component of concrete construction can positively impact the quality of concrete structures and pavements, leading to more sustainable construction that saves money in maintenance and an extended service life. Topics discussed include how curing improves hydration, lowers permeability, reduces cracking, increases strength, and toughens the surface of concrete. Other topics include curing methods, choosing the right method for a project, curing versus sealing, decorative concrete curing, hot- and cold-weather curing, durability, who is responsible for curing, and curing’s role in sustainability. Of course, no education would be complete without understanding the concrete curing resources available to assist Engineers, Architects, Owners, and Contractors, including the new ACI 308R-16—Guide to External Curing of Concrete.
Table of Contents
Learning objectives:
1. Describe what concrete curing is and how it benefits hydration, including impacts to concrete properties for improved durability and sustainable construction.
2. Identify the different concrete curing methods available, selection of the right method for the project, when to cure, and how long to cure concrete.
3. Explain the importance of curing during hot- and cold-weather conditions and which requirements change in each scenario.
4. Summarize available resources for curing concrete, including the new ACI 308R-16—Guide to External Curing of Concrete.
