Description
This is a recorded webinar from February 7, 2023.
This presentation introduces the concept of using prewetted lightweight aggregate to provide internal curing for normalweight concrete. This talk will present significant research that will detail specific effects of internal curing on improving properties of concrete, such as strength, shrinkage and durability, and provide examples of successful use of internal curing in projects located throughout the United States. Discussion includes how the effects of internal curing can make concrete a more durable and sustainable material.
Table of Contents
Learning Objectives:
1. Explain how internal curing of normalweight concrete using prewetted lightweight aggregate works to increase concrete durability by lowering permeability and reducing shrinkage.
2. Discuss how to determine the amount of lightweight aggregate needed to provide the proper amount of internal curing water in a concrete mix design.
3. Describe how the improved permeability and shrinkage properties achieved through internal curing affect life cycle cost of a reinforced concrete structure.
4. Evaluate and explain how internal curing makes concrete sustainable through improved performance, increased service life and potential reduction of cement along with increased use of supplementary cement materials like fly ash and slag.
