ACI staff recently traveled to India as part of a global effort to share technology with and learn from other concrete organizations. Ron Burg, ACI Executive Vice President, Bernie Pekor, ACI Director of International Business Development, and Mike Tholen, Managing Director of Professional Development, visited Mumbai and New Delhi, and met with representatives of national concrete organizations, government ministries, businesses, and universities, to build collaborative relationships. ACI also exhibited as a supporting organization at the The Concrete Show India, in Mumbai, India, and hosted students, engineers, contractors, developers, and representatives of government authorities & agencies. During the show, Mike Tholen presented the new ACI University and certificate program. ACI has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Concrete Institute, and ACI staff met with ICI representatives to discuss areas of common interest. ICI also provided information on the upcoming 4th Asian Conference on Ecstasy in Concrete, (co-sponsored by ACI) Kolkata, India, October 8-10, 2015. In Mumbai, staff met with representatives from The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay to provide information on ACI and ACI University for engineers, student members, and discuss the formation of student chapters. Ultratech Cement is India's largest manufacturer of cement, and staff met with representatives to discuss general concrete construction issues. Staff also met with representatives from the Builders Association of India, a representative body of civil engineering construction companies, and ACI India Chapter. In New Delhi, ACI staff met with representatives from the Construction Industry Development Council, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, and several government authorities. The Construction Industry Development Council works to benefit the construction industry, by conducting training at various levels, organizing workshops and conferences, and publishing journals and newsletters. International initiatives by ACI aligns with ACI’s strategic plan objective to seek opportunities to advance national and global outreach, and positively impact the global community through mutually beneficial alliances.
