As the year end approaches, I’d like to thank you for supporting ACI, advancing our industry, and embracing ACI’s newly expanded mission. Looking forward, I am pleased to share details about some new and exciting membership additions coming in January. ACI members can join our community while also getting more of the tools they need to stay informed, learn, and do their jobs. Today’s concrete professionals prefer immediate, digital access to answers and source material. ACI has therefore structured membership so that all ACI individual members will receive digital access to the Institute’s 200+ practices—including all active guides and reports. Additionally, members will have the added benefit of using two new substantial discounts—one for digital access to ACI’s 50 active codes and specifications, and another for access to the new, annual subscription of ACI University’s monthly webinars and on-demand courses. We are excited for these additions, and hope that you are, too. ACI increased its focus on international activities in 2017, including partnering with the Saudi Arabia-based Gulf Cooperation Council Standardization Organization to develop a Gulf Building Code based on ACI’s Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete (ACI 318), and working with its International Partners to collaboratively develop and disseminate technical information on concrete and concrete structures. ACI continues to expand student-related activities. ACI has made funding available for student teams from international universities to participate in the Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball Competition during the ACI Concrete Convention & Exposition in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, on March 25-29, 2018, engaged more students through its free student membership program, and strengthened the network of its international student chapters. 2017 was also a great year for the ACI Foundation as it secured additional commitment of $500,000 annually from the American Concrete Institute to use in awarding additional student fellowships and scholarships, funding more concrete research projects, and supporting new industry technologies. Through generous giving, you can join us in supporting the ACI Foundation. The strength of the American Concrete Institute lies in its membership, and -- as we look forward to 2018 -- ACI members will continue to be global leaders in the concrete industry. Stay tuned for official announcements on membership additions (and more!) in the coming weeks. Sincerely, Ron Burg Executive Vice President American Concrete Institute
