More than 60 students participated in two concrete competitions coordinated by Yarmouk University (YU) located in northern Jordan on April 11, 2019. The event, called “The Strongest,” was the first concrete competition for civil engineering students in the history of the university. A total of 17 teams participated in the Beam Flexural and Plate Impact competition. The main objective was to achieve the strongest concrete mix using several additives to resist the flexural and impact tests. Beam Flexural Competition Winners: First Place: Mix Experiences Second Place: BAR Third Place: Phi-16 Impact Plate Competition Winners: First Place: PCR's Team Second Place: Fiber Third Place: Concrete Creators The winners received certificates and cash prizes sponsored by the Jordan Concrete Association (JCA). The American Concrete Institute is currently accepting applications from university teams to obtain up to $5,000 to cover travel expenses to compete in the Fall 2019 FRP Composites Competition (Cincinnati, OH, USA) or the Spring 2020 FRC Bowling Ball Competition (Rosemont/Chicago, IL, USA) during The Concrete Convention and Exposition.
