Detailed Webinar Instructions

Description

As a result of rapid technology development over only the past 13 years by the Additive Construction (Construction 3D printing) field, full scale construction projects have outpaced the development of design methods, guidance documents, specifications, codes, and standards. Even though the materials going into this digitally automated process are similar to conventional concretes/mortars, research to date has shown that there is a clear distinction between the material and structural performance of additively constructed structures compared to conventional structures like cast concrete or concrete masonry block. It is therefore important for designers and contractors to understand additively constructed concrete (3D printed concrete) prior designing, constructing, or reviewing these structures. Over the past five years there has been significant work to establish construction methods, design calculations, structural models, as well as guidance, standards, and code language for designers and contractors within ACI, ASTM, ICC, and the US DoD. This webinar will discuss the developing methodologies to construction and design for additively constructed concrete (ACC) structures.

Table of Contents

Learning objectives:

1. Explain the additive construction (AC) process, including the steps from CAD modeling to construction.

2. Analyze the interaction between materials and structural engineering in the context of the additive construction process.

3. Evaluate the implications of hardened material properties for construction practices, considering the needs of both contractors and engineers.

4. Asses the structural design principles and approaches that can be taken by an engineer along with their underlying assumptions.
