5 Million Pound Test Machine With a 3’ x 6’ Concrete Core in Compression In September 2013, heavy rain and catastrophic flooding along Colorado's Front Range impacted 24 counties. Nearly 19,000 homes were damaged and at least 30 state highways destroyed. The Colorado recovery effort started immediately and less than a year later, the damage had been repaired due to the efforts of General Contractors Public Works, the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Bureau of Reclamation. ACI technical session Rebuilding Colorado after the 2013 Flash-Floods will update attendees on how engineers and technicians expedited the repair and/or replacement of roadways and bridges for towns isolated by the flash floods, and is just one of over 50 sessions that will be held at The Concrete Convention and Exposition, Denver, CO, USA, November 8-12, 2015. Technical and educational sessions provide attendees with the latest research, case studies, best practices, and the opportunity to earn Professional Development Hours (PDHs). Upcoming convention sessions include: Cement Admixture Interaction Concrete with Recycled Materials ABC Connections for Seismic Resistant Design The Legacy of Per Fidiestøl: A Pioneer of Silica Fume Concrete Carbon Dioxide Utilization in Concrete A Performance Based Approach to Hot Weather Concreting Formed Surface Finish with Self-Consolidating Concrete Deflections and Construction Tolerances: the Good, the Bad, & the Ugly Seismic Design of Segmental and Innovative Bridges View the entire schedule of sessions. ACI’s 8th Concrete Sustainability Forum will also take place during the ACI Convention in Denver. Examples of new sustainable and innovative concrete technologies from around the globe will be highlighted and attendees will be updated on the evolving landscape of concrete sustainability and structural resilience in the concrete industry. The forum will include presentations from industry experts on concrete materials and structures, representatives of international concrete organizations, and concrete- and construction- related experts, and will provide attendees with valuable insight into sustainability and its effect on the concrete industry. ACI’s Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards Inaugural Awards Gala will take place November 9, 2015. This event will honor the visions of the most creative projects in the concrete industry. The awards will provide a platform to recognize concrete projects at the forefront of innovation and technology, and showcase these projects to inspire excellence in concrete design and construction around the world.
