The subject of making concrete pavements last longer was one of the subjects in a presentation from The Concrete Convention and Exposition session titled Making Connections – The Future of Our Infrastructure. The presentation, “Caltrans’ Approach to Longer-Lasting Pavements” explored changes to concrete pavements that have the goal of making pavements that last longer. This session, on October 16, 2017, highlighted a diverse range of infrastructure project types on the U.S. West Coast and the innovative uses of precast concrete, cast in place concrete, and grout to solve complex engineering issues. Various applications of concrete pavements were discussed from both the client and designer perspective to understand the current serviceability challenges and advancements geared toward producing longer-lasting concrete pavements. Other presentations in the session included: Airfield Pavements - A Growing Crisis Concrete in the Tunneling Industry – Present & Future Concrete Applications for the Gerald Desmond Bridge Project Cementitious and Non-Cementitious Grouting Techniques for Underground Construction Download Session Handouts.
