Danielle Kennedy, a research civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Lebanon, NH, USA, is the winner of the Spring 2019 Young Professional Contest, sponsored by the Women in ACI. She will receive a complimentary registration to attend The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Quebec City, QC, Canada, March 24-28, 2019. Danielle Kennedy The Women in ACI Committee is dedicated to sharing the experience of professional and technical collaboration with emerging faces in the concrete industry by offering full convention registration to younger members twice a year. The contest is open to both men and women. As a researcher working in a national laboratory, Kennedy has a vested interest in advancing cold weather concrete technology in the construction industry. She holds two ACI Certifications in Concrete Strength Testing and Concrete Field Testing that help provide accurate mixing and testing procedures in the concrete laboratory that she manages. “As a young professional, networking and growing my technical knowledge are very important to me. Attending the ACI Conventions biannually allows me to do both as well as be involved in committees specific to my interests. I believe that becoming more involved with ACI Committee 306: Cold Weather Concreting will help both my technical research and network,” said Kennedy. All registered convention attendees are invited to attend the Women in ACI Reception during the ACI Convention on March 25 from 5:00 – 6:00 pm. This long-standing ACI tradition is a great opportunity to get to know women in the concrete industry. In addition to networking, attendees of this reception will have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction that features concrete artwork beautifully crafted by students and others. Proceeds from the auction go toward sponsoring free registration for a young professional to attend the spring or fall convention. A cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. Applications for the next Women in ACI Young Professional Contest will be available in the fall for The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Cincinnati, OH, USA, October 20-24, 2019.
