The recent ACI Virtual Concrete Convention was attended by about 2,800 professionals and students from 67 countries. “The ACI Virtual Concrete Convention allowed for industry professionals from around the world to share their concrete research and knowledge.” stated Ronald G. Burg, PE, Executive Vice President, American Concrete Institute. “Additionally, the virtual format has made it more accessible than ever for the Institute to reach its growing global community.” Originally scheduled to take place in Baltimore, MD, USA, the virtual convention enabled committees to collaborate on advancing concrete codes, specifications, and practices during hundreds of meetings. Technical and educational sessions provided the latest concrete research, case studies, best practices, and the opportunity to earn Professional Development Hours (PDHs). 45 technical and educational sessions, featuring over 240 speakers and over 80 hours of industry-leading concrete learning was available to attendees of the spring ACI Virtual Concrete Convention. Registration for on-demand access to the convention sessions will be open until May 31, 2021. Both convention attendees and post-convention registrants will have access to all 45 sessions until August 31, 2021. During the Opening Session and Keynote Presentation, The American Concrete Institute, in collaboration with Aramco, announced the launch of NEx: An ACI Center of Excellence for Nonmetallic Building Materials. The Center will develop and promote the use of nonmetallic materials in the construction sector. During the President’s Reception and Awards Presentation, Jeffrey W. Coleman, ACI President (2020-2021), presented over 40 ACI awards to concrete industry leaders and announced the resounding success of his $1 million fundraising challenge as part of the ACI Foundation’s annual appeal. The convention was generously supported by Advancing Organizational Excellence (AOE), Baker Concrete Construction, Concrete Sealants Inc., Euclid Chemical, GCP Applied Technologies. Thank you to all of the sponsors of the spring virtual convention. The ACI Virtual Concrete Convention continues the tradition as the world’s gathering place for advancing concrete.
