The Michael Thomas Concrete Durability Award was established in 2023 by the Institute in memory of Michael D.A. Thomas, ACI Fellow, for his imaginative and outstanding leadership in advancing excellence in concrete durability. This award is given for outstanding contributions to the advancement of knowledge related to concrete durability. Michael was born in Topsham England, but Manchester UK is where he called home. He held a CEGB Research Fellowship at Imperial College, London, and was seconded to the Building Research Establishment before accepting a position at Ontario’s Hydro’s Research Division in Toronto.
