A recent trip by ACI’s President and Executive Vice President to the Philippines and Singapore aligns with ACI’s strategic plan objective to seek opportunities to advance national and global outreach, and positively impact the global community through mutually beneficial alliances. ACI President Bill Rushing and Executive Vice President Ronald Burg traveled as part of a global effort to share technology with other concrete organizations. The Philippines was the first visit by an ACI president and Executive Vice President. In Manila, ACI met with the Philippines Chapter—ACI and the Structural Engineers Association of the Philippines, as well as nearly 200 enthusiastic students at Mapua Institute of Technology, and professors from Nanyang Technological University. In Singapore Rushing and Burg met with representatives of the Singapore Chapter—ACI, Malaysia and Indonesia Chapter Presidents, and the Asian Concrete Construction Institute, a technical, professional association made up of concrete professionals propagating concrete knowledge in Asia. “These and other organizations’ wish to collaborate on technical exchanges with ACI speaks to the desire of concrete professionals worldwide who want to create a global knowledge base from which all can create better concrete construction,” notes ACI President Bill Rushing. In both locations, Concrete Field Testing Technical Certifications were conducted. For over 30 years, ACI has been administering the Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I certification program through ACI chapters and other industry organizations. It has become so successful due to the recognition by the concrete construction industry of its positive impact in improving the quality of concrete construction around the world. The visit exemplifies ACI’s vision of a future where everyone has the knowledge needed to use concrete effectively to meet the demands of a changing world
