Convention attendees travel from over 40 countries and many of them attended ACI’s International Forum on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the ACI Fall Convention in Washington DC. The ACI International forum provides an opportunity for convention attendees to meet and learn from ACI international partners, ACI chapter representatives, and ACI leadership about worldwide events, activities, initiatives, and common themes of interest to the concrete materials, design, and construction industry. Speakers from the following chapters and organizations shared information at the forum - click to view presentations: Japan Concrete Institute - Hiroshi Mutsuyoshi ACI India Chapter - Dr. Surendra Manjrekar & Ishita Manjrekar Korea Concrete Institute - Jae-Hoon Lee ACI Italy Chapter – Mario Chiorino RILEM - Mark Alexander China Concrete & Cement Products Association - Sun Qinxian Colombia Ready Mix Concrete Producers Association – Manuel Lascarro & Omar Silva ACI Ethiopia Chapter - Ephraim Senbetta The International forum format gives International partners, chapters and others an opportunity to more fully share information on their organization’s activities and plans, and provides networking opportunities among ACI members, Chapter representatives, ACI leaders, and ACI International partners. Chapter representatives shared updates on upcoming conferences, spreading the word about international outreach through ACI’s Asia chapters as part of ACI’s strategic plan on international outreach. RILEM shared information on a possible joint ACI/RILEM workshop, and discussed participation on select ACI technical committees. Sun Quinxian of the China Concrete & Cement Products Association discussed the formation of the association, how it operates, and the current development of structural concrete in China. Manuel Lascarro of the Colombia Ready Mix Concrete Producers Association drew attention to their Women in Concrete Alliance, which seeks to highlight women in construction in Latin America. The International partners are some of the world’s foremost concrete-related organizations, and this forum provides ACI convention attendees with an opportunity to learn about other international organizations – their activities, upcoming publications and events, and how ACI is working with its International partners in a common pursuit of advancing concrete knowledge. ACI maintains its relationship with the international concrete community through participation in international events, active and influential International chapters, and collaboration with International partners. ACI's International committees serve as a guiding voice to keep international activities and concerns at the forefront of ACI's strategic goals. The International forum, and other international initiatives by ACI aligns with ACI’s strategic plan objective to seek opportunities to advance national and global outreach, and positively impact the global community through mutually beneficial alliances.
