ACI is pleased to announce that Randall W. Poston, Ph.D., P.E., S.E., Chair, ACI Committee 318, 2008-2014, has been named as one of Engineering News Record’s Top 25 Newsmakers of 2014. This award is presented to those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in terms of serving the construction industry and the general public. For a half-century now, ENR has named the top industry professionals who have made a difference for their industry and the public during the preceding year. The award was presented for Poston’s shepherding the total reorganization of ACI 318-14 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete, a process that began over a decade ago, and has involved many hours of volunteer service by Poston and the entire ACI 318 Committee. Poston was honored with a special award at the Concrete Convention and Exposition in October, 2014, in Washington D.C. ACI 318-14 is one of the most essential and valuable standards with respect to the design of concrete structures, and the reorganization is designed to meet the needs of users in the modern design and construction environment. The publication features improved language and style consistency, more expansive use of tables and charts and is organized so that engineers have increased confidence they have satisfied all necessary code requirements. The United States and more than 22 countries around the world base their national building codes on all or part of ACI 318, and the document is used globally. 318-14 is available in various electronic formats for access on desktop, tablet and mobile devices, plus the traditional printed copy. The manual is also available in Spanish, and will be available in Chinese, and other languages. To learn more about ACI 318-14, visit www.concrete.org/ACI318 All the Top 25 Newsmaker winners will be feted on April 16, 2015, at a luncheon and at a black-tie dinner in New York City at the Marriott Marquis.
