Concrete is all around us, even in the most unexpected places. Kansas City – the location for the next Concrete Convention and Exposition – is known as the City of Fountains, but many don’t realize that those fountains have been handcrafted out of, you guessed it, concrete! Explore the city and the beauty that concrete brings to it in so many ways. The Kansas City Fountains tour will open your eyes to the form and function of concrete, detailing how these fountains were created and the manner in which they are maintained over the years. In addition to this tour, there are several museums and parks that house artwork constructed from concrete. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is the location of the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park, which is sure to amaze any concrete, or art, enthusiast! In Kansas City, over 50 sessions will be held, providing attendees with the opportunity to hear from industry experts on topics that hit home in the Kansas City region, as well as those that pertain to issues experienced around the globe. D-Cracking of concrete pavements is a contentious and unfortunately common issue, not only in the Kansas City area, but around the United States. This featured session will address aspects of this issue, including petrographic evaluations, actions being taken by local DOTs, the role that moisture takes, and responses from the industry as well as the public. If you are involved in pavements, or just want to learn more about this national issue, this insightful session is a must for your convention schedule! Technical and educational sessions provide attendees with the latest research, case studies, best practices, and the opportunity to earn Professional Development Hours (PDHs). Full session schedule. During The Concrete Convention and Exposition, ACI Committees meet to develop the standards, reports, and other documents necessary to keep up with the ever-changing world of concrete technology. Committee meetings are open to all registered convention attendees, and are a unique opportunity to be a part of code drafting and revision, as well as give input on the use of concrete throughout the world. View the full committee meeting schedule. The Concrete Convention and Exposition offers numerous networking events where you can expect to meet with many of the industry’s top engineers, architects, contractors, educators, manufacturers, and material representatives from around the world. It is the goal to provide each and every attendee with a place to meet with their peers and grow in the industry. Networking events such as the Women in ACI Reception, Faculty Network Reception, and Opening Reception provide such forums for attendees to be always advancing. An added benefit at The Concrete Convention and Exposition is the industry tradeshow, where companies from across the country come to showcase their products and services. Attendees may walk the tradeshow floor during the three full days of the show, learning about the latest in concrete technologies, systems, and applications. Exhibitors enjoy the interaction with attendees, who are their target market — specifiers, contractors and decision makers in the field. Learn more about exhibiting at the convention. ACI is committed to proactively gathering and sharing information on transformational ideas, practices, and techniques as part of its Strategic Plan.
