The ACI Chapter Roundtable held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, during the ACI Convention in Denver saw a record number of first-time domestic and international attendees. Approximately, 40 chapter officers and directors were present for the one-day event. Participants included chapter representatives from Northeast Mexico, Arizona, Lebanon, San Diego, Southern California, Argentina, Italy, Paris, Las Vegas, Panama, Virginia, Houston, Nebraska, Penn State University, Rocky Mountain, Costa Rica, Kansas, Long Island, National Capital, Georgia, Arkansas, Pittsburg, Missouri, Colombia, Central Ohio, Guatemala, Louisiana and Illinois. (Find a Chapter in your area) There were a number of new proposals and ideas discussed during the Roundtable, which was moderated by David Suchorski, Chair, Chapter Activities Committee, and John Conn, Director of Chapter Activities. These discussions included potential for reduced ACI dues for chapter leaders, and providing technical presentations/speakers to chapter meetings. “Our goal is to help make your job easier,” Conn explained to the attendees. “We know that many of you are volunteers with full-time jobs and full-time families and we are searching for new ways to help you run your chapters more effectively, more efficiently, and more in line with the vision of the Institute.” Matt Gombeda, a recent graduate from Penn State University and ACI Student Chapter president for nearly three years, delivered a presentation about the history of PSU-ACI and outlined how the Pittsburg Chapter has been instrumental in mentoring and supporting the civil engineering department. Matt felt that ACI had a huge impact on his academic and professional career and encouraged chapter officers to continue to invest in their student chapters and members. The revamped Spring Leadership Training for chapter officers is scheduled for May 16-17, 2016, at the ACI headquarters in Farmington Hills, MI, USA. The Leadership Training format is designed specifically for new officers and directors and will heavily focus on chapter operations such as Bylaws, accounting, legal issues, and other chapter activities.
