The Women in ACI networking event is a long standing tradition that connects young women in the concrete industry with experienced professionals, giving them a chance to gain support and mentorship in a male dominated profession. Held during the Spring 2016 Concrete Convention and Exposition on Monday, April 18, 2016, the Women in ACI networking social is a growing event with nearly 60 people in attendance at this convention. In addition to networking, the Women in ACI hosted a silent auction to raise money to sponsor young professionals that want to attend ACI Conventions. Frances Griffith, along with University of Arkansas students, helped to create more than 20 decorative concrete pieces of art that were auctioned during the event, raising over $1400. All of the pieces were claimed by the end of the night. During this convention the Women in ACI awarded a free convention registration to Cara Celorio with Ryan Biggs Clark Davis in Clifton Park, New York. This was her first ACI Convention and expressed that she wants to attend more in the future. The Women in ACI hope to award more convention registrations to deserving young professionals in the future and will continue to raise money to help expose as many professionals to the American Concrete Institute as possible.
