Image of a punching shear failure in a two-way slab at a column Don’t miss out on the joint, three-part ACI-fédération internationale du beton (fib) international symposium, Punching Shear of Structural Concrete Slabs, that will take place at the Concrete Convention and Exposition, Philadelphia, PA, USA, October 23-27, 2016.2016. The symposium will follow up on two previous fib efforts through their 2001 state-of-the-art report and an international symposium sponsored by the punching shear sub-committee of Joint ACI-ASCE Committee 445, Shear and Torsion, in Kansas City in 2005 to disseminate knowledge on punching shear of structural concrete slabs. The symposium will honor Dr. Neil Hawkins, ACI Honorary Member, of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, for his significant contribution in this field of research. will present the latest information available on the analysis and design of slabs for punching under different loading conditions, the evaluation of current design provisions in modern codes based on recent experimental evidence, and an overview of the combined efforts by ACI and fib to generate test result databanks for the evaluation and calibration of punching shear design provisions in US and European codes of practice. The symposium will review recent results from punching shear test of structural concrete slabs under a wide variety of loading conditions; proposed design rules for the design of shear reinforcement in slabs; status of development of punching shear test databanks; and recent developments of punching shear design recommendations.
