Palazzo Italia (Italian Pavilion Expo 2015) in Milan, Italy The American Concrete Institute Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards have been the subject of great excitement in the concrete industry for many months now, and on the evening of Monday, October 24, 2016, the highest “Excellence” award was presented to Palazzo Italia (Italian Pavilion Expo 2015) located in Milan, Italy. The project was submitted by the ACI Italy Chapter. Eleven additional global projects were recognized during the packed Gala event at The Concrete Convention and Exposition, in Philadelphia, PA, USA. The awards were created to honor the visions of the most creative projects in the concrete industry, while providing a platform to recognize concrete innovation, technology, and excellence across the globe. In order to be eligible for participation in the Excellence Awards, projects needed to be winners at a local Chapter level and submitted by that Chapter, or chosen by one of ACI’s International Partners. Schneider recognize the role that chapters play in ACI’s Strategic Plan. “We all strive to strengthen the relationship between chapters, institute members, and staff,” said Schneider. “As most chapter members are deeply involved in the local concrete construction community, who better to determine the most impressive concrete projects associated with their area? With this mindset, ACI chose to honor this knowledge by elevating chapter award winners to this stage tonight. Schneider also encouraged chapters not participating in a local awards program to use the ACI Project Awards Guide to begin this process. “As the ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards Gala proves, these efforts will be well-worth the time," Schneider noted. During the Gala’s program, ACI Past President William E. Rushing stated that "As we hear more tonight about the technological advances utilized in these global projects, I know we can learn from our international peers and acknowledge the amazing progress taking place all over the world. I look forward to witnessing even more international collaboration in the years to come, and recognizing those efforts on this stage." In addition to the highest honor, the “Excellence Award,” which was presented to the Palazzo Italia (Italian Pavilion Expo 2015) located in Milan, Italy, additional global projects recognized during the Gala include:
