Vietnam concrete industry representatives focus on increased cooperation with ACI ACI recently traveled to Vietnam for the Asian Concrete Federation Conference 2016, and to sign cooperation agreements with the National University of Civil Engineering; Ministry of Construction; and the Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology. Discussion centered around future education opportunities, technical activities, document exchange, and mutual learning through cooperation. Vietnam has grown into a major hub of the Far East over the past 30 years, and construction is expected to continue as the country urbanizes. A new transnational highway links Vietnam to South China. Production capacity of cement has been increased significantly, and Vietnam is one of the largest cement consumers in the world. ACI President Michael J. Schneider and ACI Past President James K. Wight were keynote speakers at the Asian Concrete Federation Conference. Schneider’s presentation was titled, “ACI Certification – A Tool for the Concrete Industry to Improve the Quality of Concrete Construction,” and Wight spoke on “Development of Earthquake-Resistant Design Requirements for Beam-Column Joints in Reinforced Concrete Structures.” The international conference was a platform for the concrete professional community to share updated concrete technologies, innovations, case studies and research development, as well as the importance of the production and use of concrete in a more sustainable way. “ACI uses International Partner Agreements as a vehicle to accelerate two-way transfer of knowledge between organizations who share our vision of a future where everyone has the knowledge needed to use concrete effectively,” stated Ron Burg, ACI Executive Vice President. “We look forward to new collaboration opportunities with the National University of Civil Engineering, the Ministry of Construction, and the Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology.” ACI’s International Agreements with concrete-related associations that are committed to cooperation, coordination, and collaboration with other concrete-related societies is a critical step in the effort to develop a worldwide unified concrete community of equal partners.
