Changes coming to Field and Strength Testing Technician Programs The American Concrete Institute (ACI) is releasing CP-1(17) for Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I and CP-19(17) for Concrete Strength Testing Technician in early December, with the corresponding exams being phased in at the start of 2017. Content changes in the CP-1(17) workbook are not significant, so examiners may wish to continue using 2016 workbooks until more stock is needed. Sponsoring groups may also request the matching 2016 version of the exam, while supplies last, at the time of placing the exam order. However, ACI still advises not to mix 2016 & 2017 study materials in one session. Organizational changes in the CP-19(17) workbook are more significant and will require keeping the 2016 and 2017 materials separate. Please request the matching year version of the exam when placing exam orders. The most significant change to the Concrete Strength Testing Technician Program is in the performance exam; reflecting streamlined content between ASTM C1231 (Unbonded Capping) and C39 (Compressive Strength), these procedures are now addressed together on one checklist. The written exams will continue to be arranged in four separate sections, as before. Upon receipt of the examination materials for Concrete Strength Testing Technician for 2017, please review the updated performance checklists and Supplemental Examiner Instructions for complete details.
