Construction in progress at Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, MI, USA. ACI and the Greater Michigan Chapter have been working hard to assemble a packed program of informative sessions and events for the upcoming ACI Convention in Detroit, MI, USA, March 26-30, 2017. Sandy Baruah, President and CEO of the Detroit Regional Chamber, will be the featured speaker at the Contractors’ Day lunch and will discuss the rebirth of the City of Detroit. Contractors’ Day is March 28, 2017, and tickets for the Contractors’ Lunch can be added to your registration online. The Contractors’ Day session “Performance Mix Designs – Control Your Own Destiny” will feature speakers who are engineers, contractors, owners and suppliers, all who represent the delivery chain of concrete construction. Each speaker will discuss performance mix design from their own unique perspective, followed by a panel discussion. The second session will provide an overview of four recently constructed, or soon to be constructed projects utilizing reinforced concrete in the metro Detroit area. Some of the highlighted projects include the Little Caesars Arena and The Gordie Howe International Bridge. Contractors’ Day planning committee co-chairs note that the resurgence in Detroit’s urban construction market will be game changing and something that contractors from across the country, and the world will want to take note of. The upcoming ACI Convention in Detroit will provide a great opportunity for contractors to see the rebirth of Detroit first hand. The event will take place at the Detroit Renaissance Center, the second tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere. Constructed in 1977, the building highlights the concrete structure throughout the public spaces of the seven-building complex. In conjunction with the Women in Concrete Alliance (WICA), ACI also host a Workforce Innovation Summit at the convention. Addressing the question, “Do we have the right labor force for the jobs that will exist in 10 years?” attendees will learn about an effective diversity strategy – what is working and what is hurting progress. The session will provide attendees with an understanding of actions that can be taken to drive progress in organizations. The ACI Convention is dedicated to bringing together the leaders in the concrete industry. Conventions provide a forum for networking and education and an opportunity to provide input on the concrete industry’s codes, specifications, and guides. Technical and educational sessions provide attendees with the latest research, case studies, best practices, and the opportunity to earn Professional Development Hours (PDHs). The ACI Convention also provides great opportunities for networking. The exhibit hall will have over 50 companies showcasing their new products and services. Find the current list of exhibitors here.
