ACI’s 2017 program of monthly webinars will have topics of interest for all concrete industry professionals, and this year features a special Presidents Series of Webinars. This new concept aims to provide concrete industry professionals with the knowledge they need, presented by industry experts. Bill Rushing, ACI Past President, presented “318, What’s in Your Specs?” on February 7, 2017. Specifications are extremely important in realizing the designer’s intentions for the concrete being placed and constructed. Often, engineers are not in compliance with the material requirements of ACI 318-14. The webinar reviewed key aspects of several ACI documents, including ACI 318-14 and ACI 301-16, Specifications for Structural Concrete, to clarify the engineer’s responsibility in writing the material and specifying performance requirements for concrete construction. The webinar is now available as an on-demand course. Rushing is the Vice President with Waldemar S. Nelson & Company, Inc. in New Orleans, LA. He is a practicing engineer and project manager for structural and multidiscipline projects. He served as President of the Institute in 2014-2015. Jose M. Izquierdo-Encarnacion, ACI Past President, will present “318, New Requirements for Designing Shear Walls” in September 2017. This webinar will also be broadcast in Spanish. Izquierdo-Encarnacion is Principal of PORTICUS, a consulting firm located in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He served as President of the Institute in 2003-2004. Upcoming webinars include: Shotcrete - Guide and Specification Webinar, is scheduled for March 7, 2017, and will highlight the changes in the updated ACI 506R-16 Guide to Shotcrete. How the new Guide serves as a companion document to the ACI 506.2-13 Specification for Shotcrete will be discussed. An Overview of Chemical Admixtures for Concrete will be the featured webinar on April 4, and will provide a concise overview of chemical admixtures - what they are; their benefits and limitations; and how they are used, either singularly or synergistically, to improve concrete construction. The webinar presenter will be Dr. Charles Nmai, PhD, PE, FACI, Manager of Engineering Services at BASF Corporation (Admixture Systems). Other webinar topics this year are expected to include "ACI 562-16 – Norma para la Reparación de Estructuras Existentes de Concreto Hot Weather," and "Durability." ACI webinars are delivered by industry experts and feature popular concrete topics. The webinars and attendance certificates are administered through ACI University. They are also recorded for viewing at a later date. Both live and recorded versions offer continuing education credit. Each webinar course contains the recorded webinar, a PDF of the presentation, and a quiz for CEU (PDH) credit. ACI webinars are delivered by industry experts and feature popular concrete topics. The Presidents Series of Webinars and ACI University webinars are part of ACI’s strategic plan objective to increase opportunities for professional growth. Previously recorded webinars are available as on-demand courses. Explore the topics View entire course catalog
