Conference organizers and keynote lecturers Prof. David A. Lange, ACI Vice President, gave a keynote lecture as an ACI Ambassador Speaker at the International Conference on Advances in Sustainable Construction Materials & Civil Engineering Systems (ASCMCES-17) in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on 18-20 April 2017. Lange’s presentation was titled “Innovations in Recycling Concrete at Airports,” and provided an opportunity to summarize 10 years of research that has been conducted under funding from the O’Hare Modernization Program of the City of Chicago. ACI’s Ambassador Speaker Program provides reimbursement of travel costs (up to US$4,000) to speakers for international conferences, and an unparalleled learning experience for the speaker. Information gathered at the conferences is then shared with ACI and its committees, resulting in a mutually beneficial relationship. This two-way communication of knowledge is part of ACI’s strategic plan to establish and expand strong and productive relationships with external organizations and individuals. “Concrete is the favored structural material in the Middle East for all types of construction, and the priorities of sustainability and durability and innovation are highly valued. Researchers and practitioners throughout the Middle East attended the conference, and it was my first opportunity to visit the UAE and meet leaders in government, industry and at the University of Sharjah,” said Lange. “I was able to talk with many people about ACI and its reach to Middle East constituencies. There is great opportunity to improve our impact here.” Burj Khalifa, UAE ACI Ambassador Speakers will be attending several conferences around the world in 2017, including: 28th Conference on Structural Failures (Awarie Budowland 2017), Miedzyzdroje-Szczecin, Poland, May 22-26, 2017 fib symposium 2017, Maastricht, The Netherlands, June 12-14, 2017 Symposium on Recent Advances in the Seismic Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings, Lima, Peru, June 27-28, 2017 42nd Conference on Our World in Concrete & Structures (OWICS 2017), Goodwood Park Hotel, Singapore, August 23-25, 2017 XVI Congress of Quality Control in Construction (CONPAT 2017), Asuncion, Paraguay, September 17-21, 2017 5th National Congress of Concrete Technology, Managua, Nicaragua, October 5-6, 2017 Concrete 2017 - 28th Biennial Conference of the Concrete Institute of Australia & 3rd International, Adelaide, Australia, October 22-25, 2017 The 9th International Symposium on Cement & Concrete (ISCC2017), Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan, China, October 31-November 3, 2017 1st International Conference on Cement & Concrete Technology 2017, Muscat, Oman, November 20-22, 2017 The tentative 2018 program includes: 2nd International Workshop on Durability and Sustainability of Concrete Structures (DSCS 2018), Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia, June 6-7, 2018 fib 2018 - The International Federation for Structural Concrete 5th International fib Congress, Melbourne, Australia, October 6-12, 2018 14th International Conference on Advances in Concrete Technology / 12th International Conference on Superplasticizers and Other Chemical Admixtures in Concrete, Beijing International Convention Center, Beijing, China, October 28-November 2, 2018 ACI's goal of serving as a major force in creating and maintaining a worldwide community of individuals and organizations supplying and accessing knowledge on concrete is met through its international activities.
