Adhesive Anchor Installation Inspector, Cement Physical Tester, Concrete Quality Technical Manager Up and Running The American Concrete Institute (ACI) recently launched three new certification programs: Adhesive Anchor Installation Inspector, Cement Physical Tester, and Concrete Quality Technical Manager. The programs are now being offered globally through the ACI sponsoring group network. “The concrete industry has a global impact that continues to evolve. As technology advances and concrete construction grows and changes, it’s imperative that those working in the field meet a certain standard of work,” said John W. Nehasil, Managing Director, Certification, American Concrete Institute. “Proper certification is vital to ensuring the safety and quality of concrete projects.” The adhesive anchor inspection program certifies individuals who have demonstrated the knowledge to properly inspect the installation of adhesive anchors in concrete. The inspector must understand the responsibilities and qualifications of the adhesive anchor installer, the inspection requirements as cited in the project documents, and the process governing the qualification of anchor systems. “Working to anticipate the demands of the construction industry, the ACI Adhesive Anchor Installer certification committee recognized inspectors could be lacking in important knowledge related to the installation of adhesive anchors, and formed a new inspector certification committee,” said Michael Morrison, Manager of New Program Development, Certification Department, ACI. More than 40 sponsoring groups are currently offering the Adhesive Anchor Installation Inspector and the Adhesive Anchor Installer programs. ACI also offers the Adhesive Anchor Installer certification program through their sponsoring group network; this program includes a written exam as well as a practical exam in which the installer is required to demonstrate proficiency with the systems provided. The ACI Cement Physical Tester certification is for laboratory staff who test the physical properties of cement and cementitious material. The program covers 10 ASTM standards and specifications, and includes written and performance exams. To be certified as an ACI Concrete Quality Technical Manager, an individual must demonstrate the knowledge and experience necessary to supervise an effective concrete quality control and assurance program, and perform duties on behalf of the architect/engineer in technical matters pertaining to the concrete used in a project. Also available is the Associate Concrete Quality Technical Manager: an individual who is knowledgeable about concrete quality control/quality assurance, but does not have the experience required to qualify as a Concrete Quality Technical Manager. More than 120 sponsoring groups work with ACI to provide certification programs. To find one in your area, visit concrete.org/certification. ACI continually works with a dedicated team of expert volunteers to create industry-relevant certification programs that measure a candidate’s technical knowledge and skillset related to construction materials testing, concrete quality, handling, installation, and inspection. ACI currently offers 23 certification programs with several more programs in development. Since 1980, ACI has administered exams to more than 555,000 individuals, with more than 100,000 certifications currently maintained by ACI.
