The winners of the ACI Concrete Projects Competition were announced at the recent Concrete Convention and Exposition in Anaheim, CA, USA. Ramah M. Khalil and Khaled M. Fodail of Alexandria University, Egypt, won for their project titled “Full Design & Implementation Drawings of Three Reinforced Concrete Units.” Their faculty advisor was Dr. Zaki I. Mahmoud. Dr. Zaki I. Mahmoud The project represents complete design calculations and full implementation drawings for three separate units: First Unit: A multistory residential building consisting of a ground floor plus six typical repetitive stories, with a floor area of approximately 400 m2. Second Unit: 28m span prestressed concrete bridge consisting of pretensioned main girders, posttensionsed cross girders and situ cast slab. Third Unit: An underground water tank consisting of three chambers, with total capacity of approximately 540 m3. Sponsored by ACI Committee S801, Student Activities Committee, the Concrete Projects Competition is just one of ACI's nationally recognized student competitions, offered in cooperation that give students the opportunity to participate in interesting and educational concrete projects.
