"Concrete Elevated" is the theme for The Concrete Convention and Exposition, taking place at the Grand America and Little America Hotels in Salt Lake City, UT, USA, March 25-29, 2018. The Intermountain Chapter of ACI is proud to host the convention this spring, as an opportunity to showcase the companies, projects, current events, and landmarks that inspired the convention theme. The Grand America Hotel The Student FRC Bowling Ball Competition will take place at the ACI Convention on Sunday, March 25, 2018. The objective of this competition is to demonstrate the effect of fibers reinforcing concrete, to gain experience in forming and fabricating a fiber-reinforced concrete element, and to encourage creativity in engineering design and analysis. The Competition has two categories for prizes: Bowling Ball Design and Bowling Ball Analysis. Both categories require knowledge and experience about concrete, fiber reinforcement, material behavior, and bowling. There are projected to be up to 60 teams with over 300 students in attendance. This is one of the largest student concrete competitions in the nation. The Student Lunch will take place on Monday, March 26. Guest speaker will be Nikki Stone, Olympic gold medalist, who will share her success story. All attendees are welcome to attend this lunch. Students will receive a free lunch if they register by February 25th. Attendees can also look forward to these additional events: Opening Session and Keynote Presentation Reception Honoring Michael P. Collins Women in ACI Reception International Lunch Contractors’ Day Lunch President’s Reception Concrete Mixer An industry exhibition showcasing up to 70 exhibitors Through over 300 committee meetings, over 40 technical sessions, an exhibit hall, and numerous networking events, the ACI Convention provides a forum for the development and advancement of current issues in the concrete industry. The ACI Convention is dedicated to bringing together the leaders in the concrete industry. These individuals work to improve the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of concrete projects. Conventions provide a forum for networking and education and an opportunity to provide input on the concrete industry’s codes, specifications, and guides. Committees meet to develop the standards, reports, and other documents necessary to keep up with the ever-changing world of concrete technology. Committee meetings are open to all registered convention attendees. Technical and educational sessions provide attendees with the latest research, case studies, best practices, and the opportunity to earn Professional Development Hours (PDHs). Additionally, the ACI Convention offers numerous networking events where you can expect to meet with many of the industry’s top engineers, architects, contractors, educators, manufacturers, and material representatives from around the world.
