During convention week, more than 300 committees will meet to develop the codes, specifications, practices, and other resources necessary to keep up with the ever-changing world of concrete technology. Committee meetings are open to all registered convention attendees. The convention also provides several opportunities to build your professional network. October 16, 2018, is Contractors’ Day! This special day features sessions, a lunch presentation, and an evening networking event all created with contractors in mind. There will be a special presentation by Paul Dudzinski, Mortenson-McCarthy Joint Venture, about the construction of the newest addition to the Las Vegas skyline, the Las Vegas Stadium—future home of the NFL Raiders franchise. The local Las Vegas Chapter – ACI has put together two technical sessions geared towards contractors. The first session, “Contractors’ Day Session: Build, Implode, Repeat! – A History of Construction, Demolition, and Redevelopment in Las Vegas,” will provide an overview of growth patterns and development of the Las Vegas Valley. The second session, “Lighting the NEON in Las Vegas,” will address the NEON project, which is a design-build project to improve mobility and safety for the public travelling within the I-15 and the US 95 corridors in the Las Vegas, Nevada area. Subcontractors, general contractors, project managers, and concrete industry personnel will find great benefit in attending this eventful day. Students are invited to attend the Student Networking Event and Student Forum, participate in the Pervious Concrete Cylinder Competition, and learn how to be successful in their early career from Dr. Chip Espinoza at the Student Lunch. The ACI Convention creates a fun and educational environment with opportunities to engage with and establish connections with industry professionals and fellow young members. The ACI Convention is dedicated to bringing together the leaders in the concrete industry. These individuals work to improve the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of concrete projects.
