The American Concrete Institute is excited to announce that there are now 80,000 active concrete field testing technicians certified through ACI. This milestone was reached in June 2018. The record number of current ACI-certified field testing technicians follows a trend in recent years as certification numbers continue to rise to meet the growing demands of the concrete industry. The Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification is ACI’s most popular program. Since its inception, ACI has certified more than 250,000 field testing technicians. “Reaching 80,000 field testing technicians who are currently certified is an extraordinary testament to the power of ACI’s certification programs, and a sign that the concrete construction industry is still growing and has demand for these certifications,” said John W. Nehasil, Managing Director, Certification, American Concrete Institute. “We’ve never had a qualified workforce this big before. It means there are more people on the jobsites who are certified to do the job correctly – assuring testing is performed correctly, giving confidence in the test results, and improving quality control.” The Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification is given to those who can properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly-mixed concrete. These tests include: Temperature of Freshly Mixed Hydraulic-Cement Concrete Sampling Freshly Mixed Concrete Slump of Hydraulic-Cement Concrete Density (Unit Weight), Yield, and Air Content (Gravimetric) of Concrete Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Pressure Method Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Volumetric Method Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field The certification consists of a written and performance exam, and is valid for five years. The certification is offered through ACI’s global network of more than 120 sponsoring groups in local concrete communities. Learn more at concrete.org/fieldtesting.
