The ACI Board of Direction recently approved a $75,000 annual budget to assist university teams with travel expenses associated with participation in the ACI Student Competitions.
ACI Student Competitions are held twice a year in the spring and fall during The ACI Concrete Convention & Exposition. Over 500 students and 50 teams from around the world registered for the most recent convention held in Las Vegas, NV, USA.
The concrete competitions are an opportunity for students to apply classroom theory in mix design and construction to a physical concrete project. Students gain valuable professional development skills such as leadership, teamwork, budgeting and cost estimation, and problem solving throughout the project management process.
Travel stipends in an amount up to $5,000 will be awarded to teams who apply based on merit. Applicants will be required to provide evidence of previous participation in a local or national concrete competition as well as anticipated fundraising and a realistic budget for the trip.
Upcoming competitions for 2019 include:
March 2019 Quebec City, Quebec, Canada Mortar Workability & Eco Concrete Competition
October 2019 Cincinnati, Ohio, USA FRP Composite Beam Competition
The deadline to apply for the travel stipend for Spring 2019 is November 30, 2018.
In addition, students interested in nondestructive testing (NDT) of concrete materials and structures may submit their papers for the James Instruments Student Award by December 3, 2018. A cash prize of $1,500 and free registration to the spring convention will be awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student.
