The Middle East Regional Office, headed by Ahmad Mhanna, ACI’s newly appointed Middle East Regional Director, will serve as a vehicle for increasing awareness of regional concrete design and construction practices, in addition to strengthening strategic relationships and increasing access to the Institute’s consensus-based technical and educational resources. “This office will lead efforts to establish and nurture a wide range of strategic relationships between ACI members, chapters, companies, governmental bodies, educational institutions, partners, and other construction industry organizations throughout the region and beyond,” stated Mhanna. In 2017, ACI entered into an agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council Standardization Organization to utilize ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete and other ACI resources to develop a Gulf Building Code. ACI has also recently hosted regional seminars, partnered on industry events, and funded a new fellowship specifically for graduate students studying in the Gulf region.
