The ACI Chapter Activities department held the Dubai Chapter Roundtable on January 6, 2019 prior to the celebration for the ACI regional office celebration in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. ACI regional roundtable events are designed to allow chapter officers and board directors to network with one another and exchange ideas and best practices. Attendees included representatives from Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, India, and Pakistan. The meeting was led by John Conn, ACI Director of Chapter Activities and Kanette Worlds, ACI Student, Faculty, and Young Professional Activities Coordinator. Conn emphasized new chapter initiatives that include complimentary association management software available through StarChapter; submission of concrete projects to the ACI Excellence Awards program; and the local chapter membership category. Engagement with student and young professional activities was also a highlight during the discussion. “Three of the chapter officers who attended the meeting are young professionals and their responsibility is to usher in the next generation of concrete professionals through student outreach,” explains Worlds. “I’m really impressed with the student chapter activities and competitions that are happening in this region. Many of the students run their chapters as if it were a professional organization.” Worlds also promoted the availability of scholarships and fellowships to international students through the ACI Foundation as well as the travel stipend program that provides financial assistance to teams interested in participating in ACI Competitions. Following the roundtable, the attendees took part in the grand opening celebration of the ACI Middle East Regional Office.
