Students from around the world traveled to The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Québec City, QC, Canada, to participate in the Eco Concrete Competition, and the Mortar Workability Competition. Eco Concrete Competition This student competition aims to promote the idea of environmental performance in concrete mix design as an important aspect of sustainability. Teams thus have the mission to develop an innovative concrete mixture, which will have the lowest possible environmental impacts while maintaining optimal mechanical and durability performances. Mortar Workability Competition Teams are challenged to create a mortar mixture with optimum flowability and stability. Students are to mix mortar at the convention competition site and their mixture will be poured into a mold made in the shape of the letters aci from the top of the letter “a”. Both flowability and mixture stability will be evaluated. In creating their mortar mixture, teams will have to pay careful attention to the specified material requirements just as concrete producers must meet specification and project requirements on a daily basis. ACI's nationally recognized student competitions give students the opportunity to participate in interesting and educational concrete projects. Winners will be announced at the Student Lunch on Monday, March 25, 2019. Learn more about ACI Student Competitions.
