The American Concrete Institute (ACI) is pleased to announce that the Chester Paul Siess Award for Excellence in Structural Research will be renamed the Mete A. Sozen Award for Excellence in Structural Research for a period of ten years, effective from the 2019 award cycle. The award has been made possible by generous donations from ACI Past Presidents Sharon Wood and James Jirsa, and the Chair of ACI Committee 318, Structural Concrete, Jack Moehle. The first presentation will take place at The Concrete Convention and Exposition, to be held in Chicago/Rosemont, IL, USA, March 29-April 2, 2020. The award originated in 1970 as the Raymond C. Reese Structural Research Award, and the name was changed in 2004 to the Chester Paul Siess Award for Excellence in Structural Research thanks to a generous donation by Mete A. Sozen. The Mete A. Sozen Award for Excellence in Structural Research is given to the author or authors of a peer-reviewed paper published by the Institute that describes a notable achievement in experimental or analytical research that advances the theory or practice of structural engineering and, most importantly, recommends how the research can be applied to design. ACI awards are granted by the Board of Direction on the recommendation of an Awards Committee. The designated recipients of the awards are invited to attend The ACI Concrete Convention and Exposition in the spring to receive the awards. Learn more about ACI Honors and Awards.
