ACI Lebanon Chapter hosted the Self-Consolidating Concrete Student Competition on September 19, 2019, at the Le Royal Hotel in Dbayeh, Lebanon. This student competition promotes the idea of a low-cost self-consolidating concrete (SCC). Teams must develop an innovative “SCC” mixture that will have optimal mechanical and durability performances. To achieve this goal, teams are encouraged to seek out and use local resources of concrete materials such as supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), alternative SCMs, fillers, recycled and alternative aggregates. Teams prepared a short report describing the mix, conducted tests on the concrete samples, and prepared two concrete cylinders for testing compressive strength. Melissa Edward Najjar from University of Balamand, El-Koura, Lebanon, won an all-expense trip to The Concrete Convention and Exposition, Cincinnati, OH, USA, from October 20-24, 2019.
