The ACI Foundation announces that applications are now being accepted from students for its ACI Middle East Fellowship for the 2020-2021 award year. Funded by the American Concrete Institute and administered by the ACI Foundation, the Middle East Fellowship is open to graduate students currently attending a university in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, or the United Arab Emirates. The winning student will receive $10,000 USD in educational support, full funding to attend two upcoming ACI Conventions, and more. The first ACI Middle East Fellowship was awarded in April 2019 to Nancy Kachouh, a PhD student and research assistant in the Civil Engineering Department at the United Arab Emirates University. Her primary research interest is ‘Structural/Material Engineering’ with an emphasis on studying the behavior of concrete structures made of sustainable construction materials and the use of sustainable composite-based systems to strengthen concrete structures. The purpose of the ACI Foundation’s student fellowship and scholarship program is to identify, attract, and develop outstanding professionals for productive careers in the concrete industry and was first awarded in 2002. For the 2019-2020 academic year, the ACI Foundation distributed more than $200,000 to nineteen deserving students through the support of ACI, ACI chapters, generous donors, and industry partners. The ACI Foundation believes attracting students to the concrete industry provides both excellent career opportunities for students and helps to secure a bright future in the concrete industry. These fellowships and scholarships showcase the ACI Foundation’s goals of investing in people and the future of the industry. The deadline for applications is November 1, 2019. Additional application details are available at acifoundation.org/scholarships.
