The International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) technical committee 71 on “Concrete, Reinforced Concrete, and Prestressed Concrete” and it’s subcommittees met in Birmingham, Michigan, USA, near ACI’s World Headquarters on October 14-17, 2019. ACI serves as secretariat of ISO TC71 under the leadership of chair James Wight and committee manager Gregory Zeisler, and convenes meetings every 12- to 18-months to build consensus on state-of-the-art concrete technology including material testing, execution, design, non-traditional reinforcement, repair, and sustainability. Delegates participating in the work of TC 71 represent 80+ countries, with nearly 80 attendees at this week’s meetings from the fields of materials science, production, manufacturing, testing, design, contracting, regulating, academics, and national code writing. In addition to four days of meetings, delegates were hosted to a reception at ACI World Headquarters, with many continuing to the ACI Concrete Convention and Exposition the following week in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
