Convention activities for students kicked-off on the evening of Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the Duke Energy Convention Center with the Student Networking Reception. The reception was hosted by the local ACI Student Chapter at the University of Cincinnati. In addition to networking and ice-breaker games, the students received complimentary food and beverages sponsored by the Student and Young Professional Activities Committee. Approximately 300 students representing 50 university teams participated in the FRP Composite Beam Competition on Sunday, October 20, 2019. Following the competition, student chapter officers took part in the Student Chapter Leadership Workshop (SCLW). The workshop featured a keynote presentation by George Seegebrecht, a certification examiner for the ACI Illinois Chapter. The goal of the workshop was to highlight the benefits of student participation in ACI Certification Training programs. A number of local ACI Chapters and sponsoring groups collaborate with universities to offer certification programs such as Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I. The students enhance their overall knowledge of concrete materials and testing through the program and eventually obtain internships and jobs as a result of the training.
