The governor of Illinois recently issued a disaster proclamation due to the COVID-19 situation. To protect our attendees’ health and safety, the American Concrete Institute has made the decision to cancel the upcoming ACI Concrete Convention in Rosemont/Chicago, Illinois. Many attendees have notified us of travel restrictions placed upon them, and it became impossible to host a face-to-face convention. We are sure that you have additional questions; we do, too, and are actively working to develop answers. As of today, March 11, 2020, we suggest you cancel any travel plans and hotel reservations related to the convention. We are also investigating alternative methods to carry on the business normally conducted in-person at convention. To have your registration fee refunded, please email your request to registrar@concrete.org and include your ACI member number and/or convention registration order number, if available, prior to March 27, 2020. If you’d rather have your registration fee used as a donation to offset the Institute’s financial loss from cancellation of the convention, no action is needed. On March 17, 2020, and in partnership with ACI committee chairs, the American Concrete Institute has worked to provide the necessary technology and assistance to hold virtual meetings on the same day and same time (in Central Daylight Time) as physical meetings would have been held at the convention. A full list of the nearly 300 currently scheduled virtual committee meetings is available on the ACI website. As always, ACI committee meetings are open to committee members, students, and guests. There is no cost to participate in this first-ever ACI Virtual Committee Days. As the situation progresses and we obtain more answers, we will update you about changes and contingency plans through the ACI website and e-mail. Randall W.
