The American Concrete Institute – Virginia Chapter recently conducted its “2020 Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards,” with the award presented at the Virginia Concrete Conference in February 2020. Eligible projects have a substantial quantity of concrete and/or incorporate significant architectural, technical, or sustainable concepts of concrete use. Projects must have been completed in 2019 and located within Virginia (except ACI National Chapter). First place awards were selected in each category: Low Rise Buildings, Mid-Rise Buildings, High-Rise Buildings, Decorative Concrete, Infrastructure and Repair and Restoration. The first-place award winners will represent the local chapter at the ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards on October 26, 2020, in Raleigh, NC. The Commonwealth Award is an additional award given to the overall best project. This year’s winner is the Mega Auto Spa in Chesapeake, Virginia. The project consisted of about 1400 CY at different psi and very creative uses of fibers, water proofing additive, permanent and non-permanent graphite color. Additionally, the concrete utilized geothermal cooling, plasticizers and non-chloride accelerators. The sixth annual ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards Gala, presented by Advancing Organizational Excellence (AOE), will take place on Monday, October 26, 2020, during the Fall ACI Concrete Convention in Raleigh, NC. This ticketed event will consist of a reception, dinner, and the formal presentation of awards, followed by red-carpet interviews. Awards will be given to first- and second-place category winners as well as the overall Excellence winner for 2020. The Gala has become a must-attend event at the Fall ACI Concrete Convention. On-site ticket purchase is unlikely. Purchase your tickets now.
