Included with this special chapter issue of CI, please find your ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards 2021 calendar, celebrating this year's incredible winning projects. Each month features one winning project with awe-inspiring photos and important ACI dates for the upcoming year. Congratulations to this year's winners! I would like to thank ACI President Jeffrey W. Coleman for providing me the opportunity to discuss the ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards. I hope you were able to join us for this year's Gala, held during the Fall ACI Virtual Concrete Convention. If this was your first exposure to the awards, I trust you were able to see what a truly special program this is. Having been involved with this program since the beginning, I can tell you that I was skeptical of the concept at first. I had been active with our local chapter awards program for many years and knew of all the amazing projects that were being done near me, but how would these compare to the incredible projects from around the globe? Like many fellow ACI Convention attendees, I could not imagine adding one more event to an already packed schedule. I have never been so happy to be proven wrong! Beginning with the inaugural Gala at the 2015 Convention, I was truly inspired by what I witnessed. The following year was an even more impressive exhibition, and I cannot even describe the excitement I experienced at the third Annual Gala when not only one but two of the projects that our chapter submitted were among the winners. Now more than ever, concrete design and construction projects must integrate creative techniques and technologies to keep up with ever-evolving economic, environmental, and aesthetic demands. So many of us in the concrete community rarely take the time to appreciate what we can accomplish with this versatile material, and that is what the Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards is—a celebration of our industry! The International Project Awards Committee (IPAC) was formed to create and enhance the awards program. As the newly appointed IPAC Chair, I am pleased to tell you about two more things the committee has been working on to help celebrate these projects in these unprecedented times. Now you have the opportunity to take part and apply your own criteria to judge which of the submitted projects best exemplifies the excellence of concrete. New for this year, The People's Choice Awards puts the judging in the hands of ACI members and the public. Through an exciting campaign on ACI's social media platforms, everyone can view this year's project submissions and vote on their favorite. Voting began during the Fall ACI Virtual Concrete Convention and will be open until November 30, 2020. This year's People's Choice winner will be announced on social media. To continually improve and enhance future Galas, we invite you and your organization to partner with us as we recognize the leading concrete construction projects. With all that the Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards program has to offer, sponsorship is one of the best ways to brand your organization as a leader in the industry and to highlight your commitment to advancing and sharing knowledge. I want to thank Advancing Organizational Excellence (AOE) for sponsoring this year's event. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, contact Emily Fogleman, ACI Chapter Activities Coordinator, at Emily.Fogleman@concrete.org. Support from ACI chapters is critical to the success of the Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards program. Chapters are encouraged to submit their award-winning projects in each of the six categories. If your chapter does not have an awards program, the ACI website provides a Chapter Awards Guide and other resources to help get one started. If you are not yet a member of a chapter, I urge you to use the Chapter Directory included in this issue to find a chapter in your area and consider adding your expertise to your local concrete community. On behalf of ACI and the IPAC, we hope you enjoy your 2021 calendar, and we wish you good health, success, and happiness in the new year. Thank you, Joe Hug, IPAC Chair
