The ACI Virtual Concrete Convention on March 28 – April 1, 2021, offers many opportunities for students and early career professionals to enhance their knowledge in concrete and concrete technology as well as networking and engaging with professional members. Free ACI Membership In addition to free ACI Membership, students receive free access to all ACI University webinar, 260+ on-demand courses, unlimited access to the Institute’s practices (including guides and reports) and symposium volumes. Free Convention Registration Registration to the upcoming ACI Virtual Concrete Convention is also free to undergrad and graduate students who are members of ACI. ACI Award for University Student Activities This award program identifies universities that qualify for excellent or outstanding status, based on points received for their participation in select ACI-related activities/programs. Winners will receive recognition during the convention. Applications due by January 31, 2021. Concrete Solutions Competition This video-based virtual competition challenges undergraduate university teams to demonstrate and/or explain how their use of concrete could positively impact the world at large. The top 20 teams selected will participate in a live interview with a panel of judges. Team registration due February 21, 2021. SESSIONS AND EVENTS Attend a convention session for the entire duration and record the codes given out during the session to earn CEU/PDH credits. Enter the session codes and print out certificates on your My ACI web page. Below are a few sessions and events for students. Student Networking Event All undergraduate and graduate student members are invited to network and participate in virtual games hosted by a local ACI Student Chapter on March 28, 2021. Undergraduate Research Session This two-hour session is sponsored by S805 Student Leadership Council and will feature students presenting research in concrete and concrete technology on March 29, 2021. ACI Student Lunch and Learn This 1-hour session will feature a keynote speaker will who provide student members with inspiration in pursuing a successful career in the concrete industry on March 29, 2021. Best Practices and Lessons Learned for Teaching Concrete Materials and Reinforced Concrete Future educators are encouraged to join this two-part session featuring professors who use some of the most innovative approaches to teach topics in concrete materials and reinforced concrete design at the undergraduate level on March 29, 2021. ACI Student Forum ACI Student Chapter leaders will exchange ideas and best practices for running a successful student chapter on March 30, 2021. ACI 123 Concrete Research Poster Session The purpose of the session is to allow undergraduate and graduate students an open forum to present their research and solicit feedback from industry and research experts on March 30, 2021. COMMITTEE MEETINGS Students may attend any of the 120+ technical committee meetings during the convention as well as the below board-level activity committees. Student and Young Professional Activities Committee – students interested in learning more about how board committees coordinate events, sessions, and programs for ACI. (Wednesday) S801 Student Competitions Committee – students interested in volunteering/sharing ideas about concrete competitions. (Sunday) S802 Teaching Methods and Education Material – graduate students/research assistants interested in becoming university professors. (Monday) S805 Student Leadership Council – students interested in coordinating convention events and sessions for students. (Sunday) S806 Young Professional Activities Committee – recent or soon-to-be graduates interested in coordinating convention events and sessions for young professionals.
