For the second year in a row, ACI successfully hosted the ACI Professors’ Workshop virtually. The ACI Foundation sponsored the workshop, which was held virtually on July 19-21, 2021. The workshop provided instructors with the latest tools and teaching techniques to effectively engage students in courses that cover structural concrete design, construction, materials, and pavements. Although the workshop was fully online, the primary focus is to provide teaching resources suited for both online and face-to-face formats. “The Professors’ Workshop fills a critical role in the industry by providing the only event geared specifically toward teaching college engineering professors the best ways to teach concrete topics,” stated, Ron Burg, Executive Vice President, American Concrete Institute. The workshop provided attendees with the latest resources to assist in teaching undergraduate courses in structural concrete design, concrete materials, and pavements. One resource that was a focus on the workshop was ACI 318 PLUS. ACI 318 PLUS is a subscription from ACI that includes fully digital interactive access to ACI CODE-318-19, the ACI Detailing Manual, and the numerous design examples in the ACI Reinforced Concrete Design Handbook. Several interactive workshop sessions took place, which allowed participants to explore ideas for improving the delivery of their concrete courses. When asked about what they found to be the most beneficial about the workshop, one attendee stated, “The reinforced concrete teaching ideas (especially demos and in-class activities, capstone design, ACI 318 PLUS) because they will help enhance education in my classes.” To learn more about the Professors’ Workshop or to receive the latest information for the 2022 Professors’ Workshop visit concrete.org/events.
