Earlier this year, the American Concrete Institute launched its digital subscription ACI 318 PLUS. The new subscription provides users with full digital interactive access to ACI CODE-318-19, the ACI Detailing Manual and the numerous design examples in the ACI Reinforced Concrete Design Handbook. After nine months, nearly 1,000 registered users have signed on for ACI 318 PLUS, and that number continues to grow. "Having the option of using ACI 318 PLUS has been a welcome addition to my daily workflow, especially when working remotely,” states ACI 318 PLUS user Jason A. Thome, PE, SE, MBA. “The ease with which the document can be navigated, the quick links to term definitions and relevant cross references, and the ability to immediately access reference articles is a big improvement.” The ACI 318 PLUS platform allows subscribers to make digital notes alongside ACI 318‐19 provisions and commentary. The digital notes functionality allows subscribers to create up to ten unique sets of notes for potential sharing with other 318 PLUS users. Subscribers can also navigate content by section, by chapter, and/or by provision. The ACI 318 PLUS platform features 3D graphics, all ACI CODE-318-19 related references, and FAQs. While the platform is becoming a regular fixture in ACI 318 users’ lives, it is becoming an especially valuable tool for professors and educators teaching with ACI CODE-318 in the classroom. The platform allows professors and students to view and share digital notes and the additional resources within the platform. “I had thought that ACI 318 PLUS would be a great tool for practitioners, but it is even a better one for faculty and students. Take for example the provisions on concrete shear strength that changed in the 2019 edition of the code. Being able to read with a click of a button the references that provide the rationale for this change is an invaluable resource for the understanding of the science behind it,” states ACI 318 PLUS user Antonio Nanni, PhD, PE. Additional resources in ACI 318 PLUS are available free to ACI members, including: Related articles from Concrete International Magazine; Related articles from ACI Materials Journal; Related articles from ACI Structural Journal; ACI University on-demand courses covering code provisions and related topics; Referenced ACI guides, reports, and TechNotes; and Related articles from ACI symposium volumes. Anyone who has purchased or plans to purchase an ACI CODE-318-19 is given free access to the platform for the first year.
